Anna Kournikova Biography: Though Anna Kournikova has short sport career she is world wide known in her late twenties. Anna Kournikova was born on June 7, 1981 in Moscow, Russia. Her father was a tennis coach thus he began training Anna when she was only 5. Playing daily she had progress and in the age of 9 she signed her first management deal - she was offered to move to the USA to Nick Bollettieri's Tennis Academy in Florida. In 1995 when she was just 14, Kournikova became the youngest ever winner in Fed Cup for Russia. At age 15 she played in U.S. Open but was bitten by Steffi Graf. Two years later she played in Wimbledon, got to semi-final but Martina Hingis became a champion that year. 1998 year brought her tremendous winnings over Steffi Graf, Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport, as a result she got into WTA's top 20 rankings. In spite of her success in tennis Kournikova quited sport because of her back pain. She said she would like to come back to tennis if she had no those injuries. Still she is rather active in charity projects, different exhibition events, acted in training courses about fitness for high school. |
