Shania Twain Biography: Eilleen Regina Edwards, known as Shania Twain, was born on August 28, 1965 in Timmins, Ontario. When her mother married Jerry Twain, Shania took her stepfather's second name. A family lived low and Shania's mother desiring the best for her daughter always encouraged her singing and songwriting talent. To earn money a girl sometimes performed at local bars. An event that pushed Shania to professional stage was that her parents had got into a car accident and a 22-year-old girl had to take care of her younger brothers and a sister. So, Twain started to sing wherever she could and in 1991 she was spotted by an entertainment lawyer who offered her to release a demo. Two years later Twain managed to release her debut album. Unfortunately, it did not attract attention of public, though a producer Robert "Mutt" Lange noticed her and offered to have a second try. Before a sophomore album was published a couple married in December 1993, and in 1995 the world heard pop-country songs from a new album The Woman in Me. The same year Shania won a Grammy for Best Country Album and Academy of Country Music awards for Album of the Year. The album was sold more than 12 million copies and made Twain famous. |
